Notes on Wells Gray Provincial Park
Drive into Clearwater Lake from the south entrance. stop at visitor info for maps. Come in June for height of runoff season and high water in numerous waterfalls. Stop and see three water falls on way into Clearwater Lake. All within 10 minutes of car park.
Camp at Falls Creek campsite along the Clearwater River. Water and sani dump available for $5 CA, in exact change , two toonies and a looney required.
Use Clearwater Lake tours for boat shuttle up to rainbow falls on Azure Lake. Take 5 days to paddle back to car. No reservations. Shuttle available a Mid May to mid October. Mid-week June is high water and low season. $125 pp plus $22 per kayak or canoe. Canoe rentals available.Phone 250-674-2121. Skype 251-545-3987 info@clearwaterlaketours.com
Day hikes to above free line available during trip home. Snow capped vistas on two sides of lake. Dramatic. Established campsites spaced along the lakes have tent sites, bear boxes, picnic tables, and outhouse. Room for several parties at each campsite. Rainbow falls site is worth al layover day. Swift water river stretch between the two lakes, but portage available. Straightforward for canoes or kayak. Watch for up river motor boat traffic.
Saw two bears on the drive in, and a mamma with two cubs on the way out along the road.
